State Colleges Vs. Private Colleges

I really never understood why there is such a discrepancy in whether someone attends a state school over a private school. I feel like your paying for the name when you decide to go to a private school, which looks better on your resume. I'm not going to sit here and bash private schools, I'm sure they have great education systems like state systems. I just do not understand why some of these private schools think they can get away with charging thousands and thousands of dollars for an education i can get for much much less. Last weekend, I went to Emerson College up in Boston, and I must say i was not impressed at all with the library system. The library was barely one floor, and they only had like 5 or 6 public computers. It just seemed wrong to me that a school that charges so much money, can't afford to have better facilities. I'm not going to drink the kool-aid for BSC and say our school is much better than there's, but I must say that our library blows Emerson's library away hands down.

  1. I agree that it's strange that one would pay so much more money just for the name of the school, since both schools will give you an education. However, while visiting BU the other day for a Public Relations meeting with our school...I was sad to see their cafeterias were so much more recognizable. I felt like Starbucks and other great places you'd know were everywhere. I hate the food at our school, except for the "Bears Den," which I think put our money to waste by its reconstruction into a bears den. The difference between private and public schools is that private schools can determine where they put their money and public schools have to do what the state and federal government wants them to do, which doesn’t mean we’ll benefit from either one. So by you saying we have a better library than Emerson, and me saying BU has better food… we can see that it’s really all about what the school does with their money, not whether it’s private or public. You will get an education if you work hard at any college. I say, save your money :)

  2. I agree that it is just a label. I know so many people who have graduated from BSC and won scholarships to go to schools like Emerson and other Private schools. These schools are extremely expensive and I know that I can't afford that. I wanted to go to Emerson for Media Studies because they have greater technology. But, last year for Campus Movie Fest Bridgewater won all the way to Regional for there film so I guess it really is just the name, you can learn anywhere if your willing to put in the work.
